| Description |
This strain was isolated from the intestinal tract of Sebastes schlegelii. It was identified as Propionibacterium freudenreichii subsp. shermanii via 16S rDNA sequencing. It is a Gram-positive bacterium, appearing as short rods or club-shaped bacilli under a microscope. The cells exist singly, in groups or short chains. When cultured on MRS agar plates, it forms round colonies with a moist surface, white color, regular margins and smooth convex morphology. In liquid MRS medium, the culture presents uniform turbidity, and white sediment will form after long-term static incubation. The optimal growth temperature is 30 °C, and it is anaerobic. Functional tests verify that this strain can inhibit the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae, produce alcohol, agglutinate Klebsiella pneumoniae and suppress the expression of its virulence genes. It also features alcohol tolerance, accelerates alcohol metabolism and alleviates alcohol-induced damage. |
