Platelet Agglutination Test of Probiotics

Platelet aggregation contributes to the pathogenesis of infective endocarditis. Therefore, platelet aggregation activity is considered a necessary test for the safety assessment of probiotics. Creative Enzymes utilizes our advanced test platform and extensive scientific knowledge to provide professional platelet agglutination testing services to help our clients conduct a comprehensive quality and safety assessment of their probiotic products.

Introduction to Platelet Agglutination

Platelet aggregation, also known as platelet adhesion. The ability of platelets to bind fibrinogen leads to platelet aggregation, which leads to vascular thrombosis and infective endocarditis. Some Lactica acid bacteria are thought to possibly possess the ability to agglutinate platelets. In addition, some strains associated with bacteraemia have been found to have platelet agglutinating ability, but not all. Therefore, it is necessary to use platelet agglutination as one of the criteria for probiotic safety assessment during probiotic product development.

Platelet Agglutination Test Provided by Creative Enzymes

Creative Enzymes provides our clients with the "gold standard" technology for platelet aggregation assessment, the Light Transmission Aggregometry (LTA). The LTA is a fast, low cost of detection classical test method. The principle is based on the fact that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a relatively light-impermeable cell suspension. Since platelet aggregation increases light transmission, the effect of strains on platelet aggregation can be analyzed by measuring the change in light transmission of PRP samples.

Features of Platelet Agglutination Using LAT

  • In this test, we characterized the levels of platelet aggregation by mixing probiotic strains with PRP blood samples as well as adenosine diphosphate and some platelet aggregation inhibitors.
  • We can measure the dynamic changes of platelet aggregation in real time. The kinetic information of platelet interactions and the dynamic changes of different stages of platelet activation are confirmed by electron microscopic observation.
  • The exponential curve generated by the test scales the level of platelet aggregation present in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) obtained from a healthy donor.

In addition, we offer methods based on other principles to detect platelet agglutination in samples, such as resistance antibodies, flow cytometry methods, etc. Creative Enzymes is committed to meeting all of our clients' needs with our wide range of testing platforms.
